In Thirza Ingold's films satire, black humour and breaks of taboos play an important role. She considers black humour as a charming form of social criticism and her films are thought-provoking. You shouldn't be sure whether to laugh or cry. In her previous short “Les Soeurs de Coeurs” she examined the (mortal) danger emanating from people who are a little too friendly.

In her current movie "Kill Your Darlings" she is experimenting with different materials in three-dimensional space. Inspired by hybrid documentaries that often mix techniques to emphasise the contrast between one person’s subjective perspective and reality as perceived by a majority. She decided to reinforce this fracturing on a visual level by alternating between animation techniques

For this film, I draw on this concept in order to differentiate between the external world and farmer Olga’s inner, subjective perception. My external world is a pastoral idyll, nestled in gently rolling hills with cheerful birdsong. The meat sequences on the other hand are raw and intentionally repulsive, representing Olgas subjective perception and her frenetic lust for meat.

Bio

Thirza Ingold was born in 1981. She trained at the Bern University of Teacher Education and subsequently taught in the region of Bern and in the Emmental valley. She taught herself the basics of pixilation and claymation and enrolled in the bachelor's course in 3D animation at the HSLU Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2010. She received her diploma in 2013. Since 2011, she has led animation workshops for children and young adults in selected venues and at cultural events in Bern and Basel. She currently teaches design in the city of Winterthur. Since 2018, she has been studying for her Master's degree in Animation at the HSLU and graduated with the film "Kill Your Darlings".
