In Thirza Ingold's films satire, black humour, breaks of taboos and experimenting with materials play an important role. She considers black humour as a charming form of social criticism and her play with different materials creates an additional level of narration. Instead of giving solutions she seeks to entertain the audience and call things into question.
She enjoys building up an idyllic setting, only to deconstruct it with horror elements. In her previous short “Les soeurs de coeurs” she examined the (mortal) danger emanating from people who are a little too friendly. In "Mach mau chli Füür" an oven's appeal to turn on the heat ends in a large-scale fire.
In her current movie "Kill your darlings" she experiments with different materials in three-dimensional space. Inspired by hybrid documentaries that often mix techniques to emphasise the contrast between one person’s subjective perspective and reality as perceived by a majority, she decided to reinforce this fracturing on a visual level by alternating between stop-motion- and strata-cut-technique. She draws on this concept in order to differentiate between the external world and farmer Olga’s inner, subjective perception. Here, the external world is a pastoral idyll, nestled in gently rolling hills with cheerful birdsong. The meat sequences on the other hand are raw and intentionally repulsive, representing Olgas subjective perception and her frenetic lust for meat.
