Tokay is a Swiss-Turkish director and designer based in Switzerland. He grew up in the city of Bern, where he started experimenting with in camera stop motion animation at a very young age. During his later schooldays he explored and documented the local nightlife and underground scene using old MiniDV cams and played visuals at multiple events. He also created various short films and music videos in the Swiss Alps with simple means.
In his work, connecting image and sound, his main focus lies in the interaction between light and perception. He likes to limit himself to basic materials and simple workflows and he tries to push the boundaries to create visual illusions working with texture, materiality, light and perspective.
Thanks to his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he specialized mainly in crafting and stop motion animation. During his undergraduate studies, Tokay co-directed and animated the ident «Fantastic Adventures» for Cartoon Network in stop motion.
Currently he is doing the MA in Animation at Lucerne School of Art and Design and working on different film and design projects.
