The Disorder of Things in Gaming
The Disorder of Things in Gaming

Overview

As a live-action short film, I would like to address the resignation of young adults towards entering the world of work and their perceived pessimistic future. The search for meaning becomes a desperate escape into the digital world of video games.

Title                  The Disorder of Things in Gaming (placeholder)

Style                 Live-Action, Mockumentary

Duration          approx. 20 minutes

Location          China, in the city of Beijing. Office building, two different Internet cafés

Synopsis

The film presents three selected short portraits of characters who play video games in Chinese Internet cafés. Three protagonists are interviewed in their everyday environment. As soon as one of the three characters sits in front of the screen and starts to play, the screen no longer shows an ordinary game, but another, real existing place in the world becomes visible. A simulation game of the (nuclear) real world. In the last third of the film, the characters collide by chance in a game. Although separated in physical space, they cooperate online together in a simulation game, e.g. in a simulation of "picking lettuce" by seasonal workers in Switzerland. After a short euphoria, the storylines of the characters are continued separately again.
