Synopsis / Summary / Résumé

• DE: Studentin Mei verpasst die Beerdigung ihres geliebten Grossvaters. Auf Google Earth durchstreift sie die Strassen Hongkongs auf der Suche nach seinen Spuren. Als sie sich jäh in der Kartenwelt wiederfindet, hofft sie auf eine Möglichkeit, sich doch noch zu verabschieden.
• EN: Student Mei misses the funeral of her beloved grandfather. On Google Earth, she roams the streets of Hong Kong in search of traces of him. When she suddenly finds herself immersed in the map world, she hopes for a chance to say goodbye after all.
• FR: L'étudiante Mei manque les funérailles de son grand-père bien-aimé. Sur Google Earth, elle parcourt les rues de Hong Kong à la recherche de ses traces. Lorsqu'elle se retrouve soudainement immergée dans le monde des cartes, elle espère avoir une dernière chance de lui dire adieu.

• DE: Ich ertappe mich immer wieder dabei, wie ich in Google Earth die Spuren geliebter, bereits verstorbener Menschen suche – daraus entstand die Idee zu diesem Film. Die Geschichte spielt in Hongkong, wo viele meiner Kindheitserinnerungen verankert sind. Obwohl die Strassen meiner Kindheit weit weg sind, versuche ich, filmisch Orte zu finden, an denen gemeinsame Erinnerungen weiterleben. Im Zentrum steht das Bedürfnis, jemandem näherzukommen, den man nicht mehr erreichen kann. Der Film ist ein Andenken an Menschen, von denen ich mich nie richtig verabschieden konnte, und denen ich nie gesagt habe, wie viel sie mir bedeuten.

• EN: I often catch myself searching in Google Earth for traces of loved ones who have already passed away – that’s how the idea for this film was born. The story takes place in Hong Kong, where many of my childhood memories are rooted. Even though the streets of my childhood are far away, I try to use film to find places where shared memories can live on. At its heart, the film expresses the longing to get closer to someone who can no longer be reached. It is a tribute to people I never got to properly say goodbye to, and to whom I never told how much they meant to me.

• FR:Je me surprends souvent à chercher sur Google Earth les traces de personnes chères aujourd’hui disparues – c’est ainsi qu’est née l’idée de ce film. L’histoire se déroule à Hong Kong, où sont ancrés de nombreux souvenirs de mon enfance. Même si les rues de mon enfance sont loin, j’essaie à travers le film de retrouver des lieux où les souvenirs partagés peuvent continuer à vivre. Au centre du récit se trouve le besoin de se rapprocher de quelqu’un que l’on ne peut plus atteindre. Le film est un hommage à ceux auxquels je n’ai jamais pu dire vraiment au revoir, et à qui je n’ai jamais dit combien ils comptaient pour moi.
