Guidelines for festival submissions

Basics

Before starting your festival submissions, your film has to be submitted according to the project submission and all details of the film must be deposited in this wiki according to the template for studentfilm. Films from the 1st or 2nd year are only supported after consultation with the animation team.

Festival submission and promotion

The BA Animation department offers a one year promotional service for the graduation films from the moment of the school premiere until the next year premiere (July to July). We send all new films to Filmfestival Locarno, Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Solothurner Filmtage, Animatou and Fantoche. The undergraduates have nothing to do for these specific festivals.

We also send the films previews directly to the festivals programmers mentioned on the list of filmfestivals informing them that the undergraduates will submit all the information of their film. This gives an extra push and connection to your film and direct contact to the department in case of further queries. The undergraduate has the possibility to submit his / her film officially using the information provided on that list. After a festival selected an entry for the screening we inform the authors, submit the requested screening file format (DCP, mov, mp4) to the festival and provide them with detailed information on the authors and film from this wiki. The successes at the festivals will be communicated to the department, our website and our social media channels.

This one year promotional support can sometimes be prolonged upon assessment of the options and promotional activities of a film. Of course all incoming requests concerning our films will either be answered directly or forward to it's authors or producers. FAQ

How do I provide a password protected link to a festival ?

Easiest is the create a vimeo account and upload your film there.

Where do I get a DCP ?

If a film is accepted and shown at one of the festivals mentioned above, the department will provide a download link for the DCP and, if necessary, create a USB stick. The USB stick remains property of the department. The existing DCPs can be found in the archive or ask the technical support for special requests.

What happens after 1 year of active promotion ?

It is also important that you deliver us your current email address, as your school email addresses are deleted after graduation. Ideally you should mention it on your own wiki page. All requests from festivals will be forwarded to your private email addresses. The rights to the film do not change.
